Whew! What a busy weekend, but a good one.
Friday evening, I rushed home from the Eat the Street 3, the food truck benefit in which I'm involved for the 21st Drug Court, to go with Jude to see "The Million Dollar Quartet" at TPAC. Very cool. Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and the King, Elvis Presley.
Saturday morning, we dodged the rain and J.P. played baseball with the Red Sox at 9 a.m. I hit the Farmer's Market for tomato plants for our garden, then took JP to see Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor at the Ryman Auditorium. That was probably as big for me as it was for him, because I really wanted him to have a memory of having seen Garrison Keillor and the radio show live. We sat on the second row, dead center, which was awesome. Saturday night, Jude and I went to the Country Music Hall of Fame for the 50th birthday party of a friend of hers. There, to cap a total "Nashville" day, the lead singer of an older country music band (Lone Star) played 4 or 5 of their hit songs on the piano. Pretty cool.
Sunday, it was a Mother's Day breakfast at Phunky Griddle, followed by church at St. Patrick. J.P. crowed the Virgin Mary with a crown of flowers (with my help) and Joe carried flowers down to a vase sitting underneath Her. Our family led the procession into church, which was cool. My mom, Jude's grandmother and her Aunt Margaret made cameo appearances at St. Patrick. We hosted a Mother's Day lunch at our house after church. David Walker and Renee (fresh in from Chicago) stopped by, too.
J.P. watched "Miracle" for the 2nd time of the weekend, while Jude and I looked at houses in the afternoon. That's a whole different story.
Sunday night, we had a Mother's Day dinner at Taqueria dol Sol, then went to Kroger in Green Hills. The highlight there was playing "hide and seek" with J.P. and listening to him laugh uproariously and say, "do it again, Daddy." Of course, it wasn't quite as funny when we lost him in the store briefly. Oh, well, you can't win them all.
Family time on Mother's Day weekend. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
